Early morning fire leaves family homeless in Debak

BETONG:  A family of five in Debak was left homeless after their house was ravaged by fire early this morning.

The single-storey house, located in Kampung Bungey, Debak, here was destroyed around 5 am, leaving the family with nothing but only the clothes on their backs.

The family is temporarily staying at a relative’s house.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Betong station were deployed to the scene, some 32km from the station, following a distress call.

By the time they reached the scene, the house was beyond saving.

Earlier, Debak auxiliary firemen and the Civil Defence Force (APM) prevented the fire from spreading to an adjacent house and moved the belongings of the resident to safety.

The flames were put out around 6.30 am. No injuries or casualties were reported.

The cause of the fire and losses are still under investigation.
