Eight held for illegal cockfighting in Simunjan

SIMUNJAN: Police arrested eight men for allegedly engaging in a cockfighting session in Kampung Entaggor Sebuyau on New Year’s Eve (Dec 31).

Simunjan OCPD DSP Wong Tee Kue said the raid was conducted following intelligence monitoring by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID).

“Upon realising the presence of the police at the scene, several of the participants managed to flee while eight men, including the organiser, were apprehended.

“Also seized were some equipment used in the cockfighting session,” he said.

He added that the suspects were taken to the Simunjan district police headquarters (IPD) for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 3 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1962, which carries a RM1,000 fine or a jail term of up to three months, upon conviction.

Wong advised residents not to engage in any illegal activities such as drug abuse, gambling and cockfighting
