KUCHING: Police arrested eight individuals including a woman for illegal gambling in a house at Sungai Tapang last Saturday.
Padawan District police chief, Supt Aidil Bolhassan, said the raid was carried out around 4.30pm by a team of Padawan CID personnel and Kota Sentosa police station.
“The team found the group around a table playing cards and ‘mahjong’. The seven men and a woman aged between 21 and 60 were arrested.
“Also seized from the place were RM555 cash, tables, chairs, 120 mahjong pieces, 52 cards and two dices,” he said in a statement.
He added that prior checks found that three of them had past criminal records.
Aidil pointed out that all of them admitted to the authorities that they were gambling at the scene.
They were taken to Kota Sentosa police station for processing and the case is being investigated under Section 7 (2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
