BAU: Fifteen selected participants have attended a flower arrangement course as part of efforts to empower community entrepreneurs as well as to help generate income for themselves.

The Lifelong Learning Unit of Mas Gading Community College (KKMG) continues its initiative to empower community entrepreneurs through the Community Entrepreneurship Programme (PKK) for residents around Bau, Lundu and Padawan.

KKMG director Ts Shirley Philip said that the special course is under the Lifelong Learning Unit involving 67 community colleges and 127 programmes in 2022.

The participants consist of housewives and youth who want to generate their own income while helping to improve their personal skills.

“This nine-day flower arrangement course was taught by successful instructors and entrepreneurs with their respective experience and expertise.

“It is hope that at the end of the course, participants will start making orders from outside and making surprise delivery in doing business through their own social media platforms, during convocation seasons as well as religious events,” she said.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the course, she added that the college would continue to cooperate with associations, organisations, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the local area through short courses being offered to help the local community, especially the B40 group and youth.

“They are those who we focus on so that the knowledge and skills they acquire can be beneficial in generating income for the family.

“This programme is an effort to promote the college as a whole with cooperation between KKMG and government agencies, business associations including NGOs and local authorities in providing relevant, advanced and competitive courses,” said Shirley.

Representative of the participants, Alicia Beldin, expressed her gratitude to KKMG for the initiative and organising the programme for housewives that could help generate income.

“I was initially staring from zero in making flower arrangements and after following this course, I have received various orders from outside almost every day.

“I have also participated in on-premise sales during the recent Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) convocation ceremony, which is a step forward for me to generate the family’s economy,” said Alicia.

Also present at the ceremony were KKMG deputy management director Munirah Yahya, Lifelong Learning Unit Chief Lenny Lai, course instructors and college’s staff.
