SIBU: Police here arrested a young motorist for performing a dangerous ‘wheelie’ stunt here during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’ on Yesterday (August 20).

Sibu district police headquarters in their Facebook posting yesterday said that the 22-year-old teenager was caught when passionately doing the stunt by lifting the front tire of his motorcycle (wheelie).

“The operations were conducted in Jalan Awang Ramli Amit and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg around 8.00 pm until 12.00 pm.

“A total of 11 police summonses were issued for various offences including no driver’s licence, no side mirrors, and exhaust modification,” police said via press statement.

The nabbed teenager was taken to the Traffic Section for further action.

“The offences are investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and if found guilty can be imprisoned for not more than five years and fined not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM15,000,” the press release said.

During the same operation, a total of five motorcycles were detained and confiscated under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.

“The public are advised not to do dangerous actions on the road that can endanger their own lives and the lives of others.

“Information related to street gangsters can also be channelled to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division Sibu to jointly curb this activity. Public cooperation is greatly appreciated,” said the statement.
