SIBU: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) is committed to ensure that unity is maintained in the party.

Its Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan said that the unity criteria had been embedded in the late president Tan Sri Datuk Amar James Jemut Masing who steered the party into one of the largest parties in the state administration for the last two decades.

“PRS Youth is committed to disseminate this legacy to the next generation of youth or future generations,” he said at the opening of PRS 5th Triennial Delegates Conferences (TDC) here yesterday.

Snowdan admitted that the public was focusing their attention to the affairs and performance of the party with great interest.

“Their perception is that a Dayak based party will not survive after the first president leaves or ceases to lead the party. Thus, we as party members are to prove them wrong.

“We trust our constitution. We trust our Supreme Council because that is the highest decision making body of our party. It’s our institution.

“We all have to subscribe to what had been reached upon by consensus or endorsement, as per our constitution.

“Failing which our party is in jeopardy for reasons which are uncalled for. It can cause our entity, our party being deregistered,” he pointed out.

In other words, he said party members must recognise the legitimacy of the party constitution, the legitimacy of the Supreme Council and the office bearers.

“We cannot compromise on this else we are seen defeating our own rules and purposes,” he said.

Therefore, he urged all party members to close rank so that the future leadership and succession of the party are smooth and as what is expected in this TDC.

“Because, this will signify the party’s maturity and then with that the party will earn its respect.”
