One new case detected in Simunjan

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one new positive Covid-19 case in Simunjan district yesterday, breaking an eight-day zero streak of cases reported. It also brought the total number of cases to 553 since the first case was reported on March 13.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said, the new case resulted in the status of Simunjan district to change from green to yellow zone.

There are now six districts categorised under the yellow zone — Simunjan, Kuching, Samarahan, Tanjung Manis, Bintulu and Serian. Thirty-four other districts in the state remained as green zones.

SDMC said the number of recoveries and discharged from hospitals remained at 523 individuals or 94.58 percent of the total cases.

There were 16 person-under-investigation (PUI) cases reported, with 19 still awaiting laboratory results.

To date, 13 cases are still undergoing treatment at the hospitals, with no case at the intensive care unit (ICU) and no patients under ventilator support. Eleven of the patients are in SGH, one each in Sibu Hospital and Bintulu Hospital.
