SARATOK: Corporations and non-government organisations (NGOs) were reminded to do their part to assist the needy during Ramadan.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said those in need must be assisted and that no one should be left behind.

“We must not rely on one or two parties to aid those in need. The effort must be supported by all. Therefore, NGOs and corporations need to collaborate with the government to assist those in need.

“This is to ensure the blessings and joy of Ramadan can be felt by all Muslims through mutual assistance,” he said when met after presenting minor rural project (MRP) grants to 16 NGOs here yesterday.

At the same time, Mohamad urged the NGOs and corporations to remain sincere in helping the community and when performing charitable causes.

“In giving charity, there is no fixed (monetary) amount, as long as it’s sincere. In doing so, we indirectly bring joy to those around us.

“I personally thank the NGOs for their assistance. Not only the Islamic NGOs, but also those of other religions and ethnicities.

“This shows that unity and harmony among the communities in Sarawak play an important role,” he said.

Mohamad said the third round of MRP grant distribution involves an allocation of RM173,000.

He reminded the recipients to utilise the assistance to implement community activities that benefits the society.
