KUCHING: Industries, businesses and the public have been urged to participate in the 11th edition of the Premier of Sarawak Environmental Award (PSEA) to ensure compliance with environmental standards and guidelines in every development endeavour.
Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh announced a new feature wherein champions in each category will not only be honoured with trophies and certificates but will also receive cash incentives, further recognising their outstanding contributions to environmental sustainability.
“The 11th PSEA will grant RM20,000 to the Large Enterprises and Government-Linked Companies category, and RM15,000 to Medium Enterprises.
“Small Enterprises, Government Agencies, City Councils, and Municipal Councils will be awarded RM10,000, while District Councils, Teams, Individuals, Eateries and Food Outlets will receive RM8,000.
“With this, we extend an invitation to all stakeholders to partake in the 11th PSEA to promote an environmental culture aligned with the Natural Resources and Environment Board’s (NREB) vision of ‘Green, Clean, and Healthy Sarawak’,” he said at the launching the latest edition of the award here Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) secretary-general Datuk Jonathan Chai highlighted the award’s role in cultivating a work culture geared towards environmental sustainability.
He said through the collaboration with NREB in organising the award, SBF renews its commitment to environmental stewardship, aiming to raise awareness and encourage greater private sector participation in corporate environmental care and conservation.
“The environment factor in the ESG (environmental, social, and governance) equation focuses on how a company performs as a steward of nature, and considers how a company uses natural resources and how its operations impact the environment.
“It includes not only a company’s direct operations but also all activities across all supply chains,” he said.
The 11th PSEA adopts the theme ‘Incorporating Environmental Sustainability into Practices,’ highlights the fundamental role of integrating sustainability into all aspects of Sarawak’s development, fostering a greener and more prosperous state.
Also present were Kuching South City Council mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and NREB Quality and Environment controller Jack Liam.
