KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) are committed to providing the best services to the city’s residents.

DBKU Mayor Datuk Junaidi Reduan stated that as DBKU is hosting this year’s celebration with the theme “Iklusiviti Komuniti ke Arah Bandaraya Lestari” (Inclusivity Towards a Sustainable City), it aligns well with the Sarawak government’s aspiration through the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which focuses on seven strategic thrusts.

For this year’s Kuching City Day celebration, Junaidi mentioned that two out of the seven thrusts, namely Social Inclusivity and Environmental Sustainability, have been chosen to frame the theme, reflecting the shared concern of both city administrations, which jointly govern Kuching City, regarding environmental sustainability.

“Realising the importance of preserving the environment, it is crucial for both city administrations, along with their respective residents, to take responsibility as stewards of the environment,” he said.

Junaidi said this in his speech at the 35th Kuching City Day held at Kuching Waterfront here, which was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Tuesday (August 1).

“The efforts of DBKU and MBKS will be in vain if city residents are not actively involved in every planned initiative and environmental conservation programme.

“Additionally, DBKU and MBKS invite every individual and social group in the Kuching community to share the same goal of ensuring the preservation of the beautiful environment of Kuching City is not compromised by activities that pollute our water, air and soil,” he said.

He added that 80 action plans have been formulated in the DBKU Strategic Plan 2023-2030, in line with the PCDS2030, which is based on the slogan C, B, S, representing DBKU’s commitment to delivering services that are Clean, Beautiful, Safe, Smart, and Sustainable.

For this year’s Kuching City Day celebration, Junaidi also mentioned that both DBKU and MBKS are organising various activities, including the ongoing Kuching Festival Food Fair, Kuching Street Parade in conjunction with 60th Sarawak Independence on Aug 5, Siol International Mountain Bike Challenge on Aug 25-27, Kuching Got Talent on Aug 12, Kuching Zumba Fiesta on Aug 19, DBKU International Cat Show on Sep 2-3, and many more.

Junaidi added that DBKU has a unique approach to achieving community inclusivity through Kejiranan Mesra or KJM DBKU, where 10 events will be held separately and managed by KJM in their respective neighborhoods.

“This is done to ensure that the vibrancy of the Kuching City Day celebration is not only felt in the city centre but also extends to residential neighbourhoods and villages, reaching areas like Muara Tebas Village, Pulau Salak, Kampung Buntal, and beyond,” he said.
