SIBU: The quick action of the firemen managed to prevent the fire from causing greater destruction in an incident involving two-storey terraced house in Lorong Sukun, Jalan Hulu Lanang, here today.
According to Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Janggan Muling, they received an emergency call about the incident at 10.59 am.
“Arriving at the scene of the incident, the fire team from BBP Sibu Sentral found that a two-storey permanent terrace house was on fire.
“Our members continued to start extinguishing operations in an ‘offensive’ manner to put out the flame on the upper floor which was 30 per cent burnt while the lower floor was 100 per cent burnt.
Janggan also noted that the fire also affected the adjacent buildings (two neighbouring houses) with each was burned about 10 per cent in their parking areas.
“We were informed before that all the residents of the affected house managed to get out to safety and the fire did not cause any injuries or loss of life.
“Thankfully the fire did not cause severe damage to the neighbouring house and the fire was successfully brought under control at 11.30 am whereas the operation was completed at 12.36 pm,” he said.
The fire team then made further inspections to ensure that there was no more danger around the incident site.
Nine firemen from the Sibu Central and 13 firemen Sungai Merah stations were despatched to the scene.
The cause of the fire and the losses are still under investigation.
