KUCHING: The Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) will provide highspeed internet broadband services to ensure a smooth learning process in two schools under the Sarawak Islamic Council in the Samarahan district.

SMA general manager Dr Zaidi Razak said two out of 11 schools under the Sarawak Islamic Council have experienced broadband network problems.

“We are receiving feedback from telecommunication companies that could help provide broadband network services to remote areas.

“In fact, the initiative to provide broadband services throughout Sarawak is a matter of concern and emphasised throughout Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030),” he said after a courtesy call from a delegation of the Islamic Council led by the Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) director Ustaz Khalidi Ibrahim yesterday (Feb 7).

Zaidi said the provision of broadband services has been outlined as the key driving sector (enablers) of the digital economy which falls under the development of human capital and education on social inclusion.

He stressed that SMA is committed to ensuring the broadband network of the two schools is upgraded with immediate effect.

At the same time, JAIS hopes that the issues related to the broadband network for the schools under their management are settled accordingly to make it easier for teachers and students to go through the learning and teaching process comprehensively.

Ustaz Khalidi has requested SMA to provide educational aid to encourage students to continue venturing into the field of skilled manpower, as outlined by the Sarawak government through talent development.
