KABONG assemblyman Mohamad Chee Kadir has proposed to carry out a feasible study to build an electric high speed railway from Kuching to Lawas.

He said the hydro sources from Bakun, Batang Ai, Murum, and Baleh can be used to power up the said railway.

“A lot of electricity, environmentally friendly and cheap will give great competitiveness to the electric railway operator in the future,” he said when debating on the 2024 State Budget on Friday.

Mohamad Chee added that railways are an efficient and competitive aspect of public transport.

“Railways are used in developed countries and have been implemented for a long time until today.

“Even in Malaysia, rail transports are used in Malaya and Sabah,” he said.
