KUCHING: The economic alignment of the federal and Sarawak governments is needed for the state’s plan to take off.

In stating this, federal Economy Minister Mohd Rafizi Ramli said currently, the economic focus at the federal and state levels is similar to one another, which is the energy transition.

Furthermore, he pointed out that Sarawak has the greatest potential in all of Malaysia to move the country’s position as a leader in regional energy transition.

“That is why I am happy with what Sarawak has planned in this sector. Some decisions that the federal government made has allowed Sarawak to accelerate in several big projects involving in energy transition.

“With the alignment and integrated cooperation between these two governments, it will enable every initiative that is focused both in Sarawak and the federal government to be more successful.

“The chance and the probability that Sarawak’s plans will take off is much higher when there is an alignment like this,” he said.

He said this during a press conference after attending the Engagement Session of the Half Term Review of the 12th Malaysia Plan with the Sarawak Government at Hilton Hotel here yesterday.

Rafizi reiterated that if Sarawak succeeded in achieving its vision to be the leader in energy transition, Malaysia would also succeed.

In light of this, he said, it would have a good impact for Sarawakians in terms of job, salary and more spending power in the future.

“That’s why I appreciate the contribution of the Sarawak government and the people of Sarawak who really understand that at this stage, we really need political stability.

“With the stability that they have, the Sarawak government can be fully focused on development and policy.

“I hope this relationship between the federal and Sarawak governments will be emulated because we don’t allow politics to get in the way of prioritising development, and the welfare of the people. We need these few years in realising our future potential economic growth,” he said.
