3 new Bills to be tabled in next DUN sitting

KUCHING: Three new Bills will be tabled in the third session of the first term of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

DUN speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar disclosed that the three new Bills are the Supply (2023) Bill, 2022; Constitution of the State of Sarawak (Amendment) (No.2) Bill, 2022; and Sovereign Wealth Future Fund Board Bill, 2022.

He explained that the new Bills are among six Bills that will be tabled during the DUN sitting, which includes the Electronic Sarawak Government Activities Bill, 2022; Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2022; and Veterinary Public Health (Amendment) Bill, 2022.

“Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will be tabling two Bills namely the Supply (2023) Bill, 2022 and Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund Board Bill, 2022,” he said during the DUN press conference at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarter on Sunday (Nov 19).

Asfia said the Electronic Sarawak Government Activities Bill, 2022 will be tabled by Utilities and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi; Constitution of the State of Sarawak (Amendment) (No.2) Bill, 2022 on the Anti Hopping Law will be tabled by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

He added that the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 will be tabled by Datuk Len Talif Salleh; and Veterinary Public Health (Amendment) Bill, 2022 will be tabled by Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

“The first reading of all the Bills will be done on the first day of the DUN sitting which is on Monday (Nov 21).

“The second and third reading of the Supply (2023) Bill, 2022 will be done on Nov 21 and Nov 30 respectively.

“Meanwhile the Electronic Sarawak Government Activities Bill, 2022; Constitution of the State of Sarawak (Amendment) (No.2) Bill, 2022; and Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund Board Bill, 2022 will be done on Nov 22.

“The second and third reading of the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 and the Veterinary Public Health (Amendment) Bill, 2022 will be done on Nov 23,” he said.

Asfia disclosed that the DUN received 286 questions from the honourable members as of Nov 7 (its closing date) in which 223 of it were oral replies while 63 were written replies.

Out of it, he added, the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government received the highest number of questions with 45 in total.

“With regard to Motions from Members of the August House under Meeting Rule 23, the DUN has not received any private motions from Honourable Members,” he said.

For the record, the DUN sitting will begin tomorrow (Nov 21) until Wednesday (Nov 30) with exceptions of the weekends.

The eight days of the DUN sitting will have their winding up speeches by the ministers from Nov 28 to Nov 30.

The motion of adjournment proposed by the Tasik Biru Assemblyman Datuk Harry Henry Jinep will be done on the last day of the DUN sitting.
