Felcra empowers management of oil palm plantation to optimise production

KUALA LUMPUR: Felcra Bhd is empowering the management of oil palm plantations including in Igan Parliamentary constituency to ensure the optimum level of palm oil production and better yield.

Deputy Economic Affairs Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said, among steps taken include adapting to Block Harvesting System via the application of the D10 system to optimise the harvesting of fresh fruit bunches and increasing the workers’ discipline.

“Felcra also enhances the use of mechanisation for weed management, fertilisation and crop protection.

“In addition, the maintenance of infrastructures such as agricultural roads and drainage are implemented regularly so that it will function properly,” he said in response to Ahmad Johnie Zawawi’s (GPS-Igan) question about plans by Felcra to increase the income of its participants.

He also said plans by Felcra to expand its oil palm plantation will depend on the size of the area and its viability to be developed.

“A total of eight projects covering 453 hectares have been listed as the proposed new oil palm plantation project in Sarawak.

“Of these, a new oil palm plantation project covering 53 hectares with 107 participants in the Igan Parliament area will be developed by 2020,” he added. – Bernama
