KUCHING: More than 100 international participants took part in the “International Friendship Cities Night 2017” held at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) amphitheatre here on Saturday night.

The international participants came from Guro, South Korea, Zhenjiang, Zhanjiang and Kunming, China, and Asuke, Japan.

The event was officiated by the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“Congratulations to MBKS as well as the Mayor, Dato James Chan Khay Syn on the success of the festival.

“The festival is a very much awaited event by the international tourists as well as the local people. Hopefully, it will continue to be held as our ministry can assist and contribute to this event to make it grander,” said Karim.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Kuching Fiesta 2017, Mohamad Taufik Abdul Ghani said the Friendship Cities programme was a way for the city to initiate relationships on a municipal government to municipal government basis and with international cities on a less formal basis than through an official sister city relationship.
