SIBURAN: Thirteen people were left homeless in a fire which destroyed a house and three vehicles at Kampung Tijirak here last night (May 18).

The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) which was informed of the blaze at 8.29 pm despatched firefighters from the Siburan fire station to the scene.

“At the scene, the operations commander reported that eight victims were affected by the fire and they managed to get away to safety unhurt. Another five occupants were away at the time of the incident.

“The fire engine had difficulty arriving at the scene because of the narrow road access.

“The crew had to switch to a smaller vehicle to reach to the house,” a FRD spokesman said.

Part of the house was damaged in the fire which also destroyed a pickup truck and a motorcycle. A compact vehicle was also partially damaged.

The firefighters used an 800-foot long hose line with two nozzles and a water pump machine to pump water from a nearby water source.

“The fire was under control and put out by 9.38 pm, and an overhaul work was conducted,” he added.

No injuries or casualties were reported and the cause and loss of property are yet to be ascertained.
