PUSA: Twenty-two residents were left homeless after a fire destroyed three houses in Kampung Hulu, Beladin last Sunday.

The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call pertaining to the 8.52pm incident and despatched firemen of Saratok and Betong fire stations to the scene.

Saratok Bomba chief Nazry Mohamat said that the fire started at one of the houses and later spread to adjacent houses.

“Upon arrival, three non-permanent houses were almost destroyed.

“During the extinguishing operation, firefighters experienced difficulties as they could not get water from the fire hydrant,” he said in a statement.

He added that the estimated distance between the station and the scene is 53km, which took them more than an hour to reach.

Apart from that, firefighters had to use the Pusa ferry service to Beladin.

The team also faced difficulties in entering the area due to its narrow passage.

No casualties were reported during the incident and the operation ended at 1.30am. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
