SIBU: The Regiment 511 Territorial Army (TA) or Askar Wataniah (AW) became the first regiment to be mobilised outside their area of responsibility.

This was when 126 members were deployed to Sibu to enforce the movement control order (MCO).

A military spokesperson said since March last year, members of the Regiment 511 TA have joined hands with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in enforcing MCO in the Third Infantry Brigade’s administration areas in Kuching, Bau, Padawan, Serian and Sri Aman.

So when personnel of the Territorial Army were deployed to Sibu on Feb 4 this year, they became the first regiment to be mobilised outside their area of responsibility and thus, creating a new dimension for the regiment.

Recently, Reg 511 TA commander Brigadier General Abang Mohamad Abang Marzuki paid a visit to Sibu on Feb 17 to 19, to ensure his personnel’s morality, enthusiasm and welfare were always at a high level.
