LAWAS: Police arrested five people for suspected drug-related offences on Tuesday night.

Lawas District Police chief, DSP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the first two suspects were arrested at a hut in Kampung Long Ungui, Jalan Long Tuma here after they were found possessing four straw tubes filled with crystalline substance believed to syabu.

He said both men were also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

On the third suspect, Abang Zainal said the man was detained at a rented room at Jalan Pengiran Haji Matussin after a straw tube containing drug, believed to be syabu, was found in the right pocket of his pants.

He added that the suspect, from Kampung Masjid Trusan, was taken to the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) office and was later tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Abang Zainal said two more suspects including one from Sabah were arrested by police after they were tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine as well.

He said all the suspects were detained at the Lawas Police Station lockup pending further investigation.
