PUSA: Another assemblyman has held out hope that the five Sarawak MPs who are now in the federal cabinet will be able to contribute in a big way.

Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor is confident Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as Deputy Prime Minister and his four cabinet colleagues will be able to work for the prosperity and well-being of the people.

“Well done and congratulations to Fadillah, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

“This is also pride and honour for Sarawak.”

He said they represent the people of Sarawak in parliament together with other Members of Parliament especially in demanding the rights and interests of Sarawak as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“This is in addition to bringing more development, especially basic infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, schools and more modern higher education centres, in addition to telecommunications, affordable housing, agriculture and the economy,” he told Suara Sarawak/New Sarawak Tribune, yesterday.

Fadillah’s appointment as Plantations and Commodities Minister, he believed, will bring more returns to the state and entrepreneurs.

“We would like to see more factories producing downstream products of oil palm, pepper, pineapple, cocoa, sago and so on developed in Sarawak as added value. This will increase employment opportunities.

“I am also grateful that the Works Ministry is still headed by a Sarawak MP, which is very important, especially in improving connections such as rural roads, bridges, and other infrastructure that can be enjoyed by the people.”

He also expressed confidence in Tiong developing the potential of the tourism sector for Sarawak.

“The requirement is for more allocations to develop more tourism products such as the Disney Land theme park in Japan, historical discovery centres with a three-dimensional (3D) concept and cable cars like in Langkawi.

“Local tourism products such as cultural villages, ecotourism and country stays should be expanded.

“Nancy’s role in the development of women, families and communities is no less important.

“Her partnership with the Minister of Women, Children and Community Development in the state Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah is an opportunity to introduce more national initiatives in Sarawak and funds can be expanded for initiatives that are forward-looking,” he explained.

On Aaron, Razaili described the successful forging of the unity among the people of Sarawak can be used as an example for the people in Peninsular Malaysia.
