Five records shattered at Sibu Open Track and Field Championship

SIBU: Five new records were created throughout the Sibu Open Track and Field Championship, which concluded at the Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre in Sibu Jaya here on Monday (Nov 20).
SMK Chung Hua Miri’s Ng Jing Jun smashed the old record of 10.76m in the Girls Under-14 Borneo United Sawmill Shot Put where she reset the previous record to 11.02m.
Fernandes Grand Simon Zebidee from SMK Song No. 2 threw the javelin to a record distance of 50.77m, overhauling the old mark of 49.66m in the Boys Under-14 category.
The next record-breaker was Fricella Endriana Endrew of SJK Thian Chin (Sibu) in the Girls Under-11 high jump event, where she reset the previous record of 1.39m to 1.41m.
Crish Hergreaves Willie from Kelab Olahraga Speed Force Miri clocked 53.07 seconds in the Boys-Under-14 400m, erasing the old record of 53.4 seconds.
Meanwhile, for Boy Under-14 4x100m event, Kelab Olahraga Speed Force Miri clocked 45.39 seconds, erasing the old record of 45.70 seconds.
The Sukma Shadow Team Sarawak emerged as the champions in the men’s and women’s open category.
The Sukma Shadow Team Sarawak in the men’s open category successfully collected three gold, five silver and three bronze medals.
The runner-up for the men’s open category title went to Lugoss Athletics Team with a haul of three gold, two silver and one bronze, while Brunei Athletics secured the third position with two gold, one silver and one bronze.
For the best women’s open category, Sukma Shadow Team Sarawak managed to gather seven gold and two silver while the runner-up, Axis Track and Field, bagged two gold, one silver and two bronze.
Meanwhile, Sarikei Selected secured the third position with two gold, one silver and one bronze.
For the Boys Under-14 category, SMK Sedaya Kanowit emerged as the champions after collecting three gold, five silver and two bronze.
The runner-up was Kelab Olahraga Speed Force Miri with two gold and two silver while SMK Julau took the third position with one gold and two silver.
For the Girl Under-14 category, SMK Julau No. 2 became the champions after successfully gathering three gold and one bronze.
The runner-up was Awa Athletics Team Betong with two gold and two silver, and SMK Chung Hua Miri secured the third position with one gold, one silver and two bronze.
For the Boys Under-11 category, SMK Merbau Miri emerged as the champions with a collection of five gold, two silver and one bronze.
The runner-up was SJK Yee Ting Kanowit with one gold and three silver, while SK SEDC Sibu took the third position with one gold and one bronze.
For the under-11 girls’ category, SMK Merbau Miri became the champions with a haul of three gold, two silver and one bronze.
The runner-up was SK Kampung Senau Dalat with two gold, two silver and two bronze, while SJK Thian Chin Sibu secured the third position with two gold.
The prize-giving ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.
The two-day tournament gathered around 900 athletes not only throughout Sarawak but also from Johor and Brunei.
Also present were Sibu Amateur Athletic Association president Dr Gregory Hii and others.
