KUCHING: A fire incident at a teacher’s flat halted classes briefly at SMK Datuk Patinggi Kedit in Betong yesterday morning.

The incident occurred at about 8.40am when smokes were spotted billowing from one of the teachers’ flats.

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre was promptly alerted about it and eight firefighters from Betong Bomba were dispatched to the scene.

They came in one fire engine and one Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) vehicle led by senior officer Jumandi.

When the firefighters arrived, the fire, however, had been extinguished.

The rescue team, nevertheless, carried out further inspection to ensure the source of the fire was completely removed for safety of the flat occupants.

No casualty was reported and as at press time, the cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.

Classes resumed once Bomba said the situation was confirmed safe.
