SADONG JAYA: The community has been called upon to heighten their vigilance in response to the rising COVID-19 cases.

Batang Sadong MP, Rodiyah Sapiee, emphasised the importance of following the Ministry of Health’s guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus.

“The local community must remain cautious and always heed the recommendations of the Ministry of Health due to the increased cases of COVID-19,” she said at the Dongzhi Festival Celebration in Kampung Terasi Cina here recently.

The Dongzhi Festival, or Winter Solstice Festival, is a key cultural event for the Chinese and East Asian communities, marking the winter solstice.

“This festival is a celebration that honours rich cultural traditions and heritage, symbolising family unity, harmony, and reverence for the changing seasons,” she added.

Meanwhile, Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris praised the village for organising the festival.

“Through this event, the younger generation becomes more acquainted with and understands the significance of the festival’s terms and age-old traditions,” he said.
