Foreigner among six nabbed for alleged substance abuse

Six men including a foreigner, were arrested for allegedly engaging in substance abuse around the district on Monday and Tuesday.

BINTULU: Narcotic police here arrested six men including a foreigner on suspicion of engaging in substance abuse activities early this week.

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit said on Monday (July 18), the police arrested four locals and a foreigner aged between 27 and 46, around Jalan Tun Hussien Onn.

The next day (July 19), the police arrested another local aged 33 around Jalan Abang Galau and seized 1.2g of drugs believed to be syabu.

He added that the suspect will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine up to RM100,000 or a jail term up to five years, if convicted.

All six suspects were tested positive for drugs and they will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, the Section provides for a fine up to RM5,000 or a jail term up to two years and two years of supervision.
