BINTULU: Narcotics police arrested a foreign man for alleged possession of syabu in Nyigu on Tuesday (Aug 15).

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit said the 25-year-old suspect was detained on suspicion of involvement in drug abuse and distribution.

“The team found eight straw tubes containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu, weighing 7.2g on him.

“The suspect will be investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term of up to five years and up to three lashes of the rotan, if convicted,” he said.

The drugs can be distributed to about 150 users.

The suspect also tested positive for drugs and will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

The suspect will also be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having a valid travel document.

Batholomew advised the public to continue channel any information related to drugs activities to Bintulu police at 086-318304.
