Former pemanca passes away

KAPIT: A former Muslim community leader here, Pemanca Badi Nuawi passed away at Sibu Hospital after a short illness on Wednesday evening. He was 74 years old.

His body was sent back to Kapit for burial at the Muslim cemetery at KM3 Jalan Selirik here on Thursday afternoon.

Hundreds of people from all walks of lives irrespective of race or religious practices gathered at his residence at Kampung Muhibbah Bletih here to pay their last respects to the community leader.

Among them were Julau MP Larry Sng Wei Shien and Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

The late Badi was a renowned educationist. In 2012, he was awarded the prestigious ‘Tokoh Guru’ award during the state-level Teachers’ Day celebration held at Kapit Civic Centre.

In recognition of his outstanding services, he was conferred BBS and ABS (Bendera Bintang Sarawak and Ahli Bintang Sarawak) by the state government.
