KUCHING: A former soldier was sentenced to nine years in prison and fined RM8,000 for injuring his two sisters and an 11-year-old boy.

Madeng Sibon, 53, from Kampung Stenggang pleaded guilty to two charges which were read before Judge Iris Awen Jon.

He was charged with intentionally causing serious harm to an 11-year-old boy by slashing the victim with a machete.

Madeng committed the offence at the roadside near the Kampung Stenggang football field, Bau, at around 4.20pm on Feb 7.

DPP Ruvinasini Pandian informed the court that Madeng who has mental health problems was found fit for trial.

Iris Awen sentenced Madeng to six years in prison and a fine of RM8,000 or four months in prison as an additional sentence if Madeng fails to pay the fine.

It is understood that the boy had disturbed Madeng who was playing the guitar at the time by setting off firecrackers in front of him.

Madeng subsequently went on a rampage and slashed the victim with a machete.

Meanwhile, in the same court, Madeng was charged with injuring his two younger sisters by hitting them with a stick.

He hit his two younger sisters aged 40 and 34 on the head  at their residence in Kampung Stenggang, around 2.30pm, Feb 19, 2022.

For that offence, Iris Awen sentenced Madeng to three years in prison.
