SIBU: A forum will be held by Sibu Bumiputera Graduates Association (PGBS) this coming March 9 on Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA74) and Territorial Sea Act 2012 (TSA).

The forum which is organised in cooperation with Nangka DUN Service Centre will be held at University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) at 8am.

PGBS chairman Abang Fairul Syarmil in a press conference last Friday said, “TSA, PDA74 and MA63 are often discussed in prime media channels and social media. The public are aware that the state government has started to claim back our autonomy rights as contained in MA63 which has been eroded,” he said.

He recalled that the effort was initiated by the late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem and continued by current Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Do the people of Sarawak know about these laws? What are the implications and effects? Hence, PGBS will hold the forum where we can discuss these laws,” he said.

According to him, the forum is aimed at getting clearer information from legal experts on the subject matter, to exposure the community to Sarawak rights as well as to hold two-way discussions between the panel members and the participants.

“Three panels who have in-depth knowledge and expertise will discuss the TSA 2012, PDA74, MA63 as well as ‘What You Want and Why You Need to Know’ followed by Q&A session,” said Fairul.

“The three panel members are Sibu Rural District Council deputy chairman cum lawyer Robert Lau Hui Yew; Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring assistant minister Sharifah Hasidah, as well as MA63 activist Zainal Ajamain.”
