SIBU: Four friends lost a total of RM1,500 after they were robbed of their mobile phones by a lone armed robber on Wednesday.
The incident took place at around 1.15am at a basketball court at Jalan Merlin here while the friends were having a drink. This was when an unknown man arrived in a Perodua Axia car and stared at the group as he drove slowly past the court.
This prompted one of them to shout at the man and asked him why he was staring at them, to which the latter responded by charging out of his car with a samurai sword.
Threatening to harm them, the man ordered the four friends to surrender their mobile phones before fleeing the scene.
Sibu District Police chief, ACP Saiful Bahri confirmed receiving a report on the incident and said the case was being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code.
