BANGKOK : A pick-up truck plunged into a ditch in southern Thailand’s Chumphon province, killing four Myanmar workers and injuring 12 others, local media reported on Wednesday.

The accident occurred on Tuesday night when the truck ferrying Myanmar workers to the Surat Thani province in the south, plunged into a ditch, reported Xinhua news agency.

The passengers were sent to a hospital and four of them were pronounced dead, police said. Among the 12 injured, six were in critical condition.

The driver who sustained mild injuries said he lost control of the vehicle when approaching the ditch.

Thailand has a bad record of fatal road accidents, mostly due to weak enforcement of driving rules.
