Free education programme attracts 100 students

MIRI: IBS College free education project which was launched on Monday is a free two-month course tailored for SPM school leavers.

One hundred students from Miri, Limbang and Sibu have enrolled for the course which started yesterday and will end on May 30.

The initiative, which is supported by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, aims to equip students with practical skills and knowledge while awaiting opportunities to pursue higher education or explore alternative paths,.

Met after the launching of the free education programme at IBS Miri here yesterday, Ting added, “This project is the first of its kind in Sarawak, setting a new standard for educational opportunities. Through this programme, students can access a wide range of courses and resources to enhance their knowledge and skills.

“This programme aims to bridge the gap between completing secondary education and entering tertiary institutions or the workforce.

“By providing a comprehensive syllabus tailored to students’ needs and interests, participants gain valuable skills and knowledge to enhance their academic and professional prospects.”

Ting added the initiative not only provided SPM school leavers with access to quality education but also empowered them to make informed decisions about their future.

“By investing in their development, we are investing in the future prosperity of our communities and nation as a whole,” he said.

Meanwhile, according to IBS College principal and CEO Dr Anthony Hii, the two-month course at IBS College covers a range of subjects, including computers skills, English Language skills, Leadership and Entrepreneurship Development.

Additionally, the programme offers guidance and support to help students navigate their next steps after completing the course.

“Whether they choose to pursue further studies at universities, enrol in vocational training programmes, or enter the workforce directly, participants are equipped with the tools and confidence to succeed,” he said.
