SIBU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) in collaboration with Ethos Academy of Skills Development will provide free skills training for rural youth.

According to PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, this is one way of helping jobless rural youth through five programmes in hospitality and tourism industry.

The programmes are service operation, food and beverage service operation, food preparation and production, housekeeping operation and pastry production.

“These programmes are three or six months on the job training and we will start off with such programmes for youth in Bawang Assan areas,” he told reporters.

Wong, who is also Bawang Assan assemblyman, said these programmes are open to interested youth who could not find other jobs to do.

“Those interested can join the programmes based on a first come, first served basis as we only have 100 places.

“Every participant with at least a PMR certificate will be given RM500 allowance to start off.

“During the training, they will be assigned to various hotels and while on the job training, they will also be given RM500 allowance each month,” he said.

Upon graduation, Wong added, they would be paid monthly by the hotel they work in.
