Furious when unable to buy lottery numbers, elderly shatters shop’s glass counter, injures worker

The 63-year-old suspect was arrested by Kota Sentosa police for punching through the glass counter of a licensed lottery shop and caused injuries to a female employee.

PADAWAN: An elderly was arrested after he punched through the glass counter of a licensed lottery shop and caused injuries to a female employee in Kota Sentosa, Jalan Penrissen.

Padawan OCPD Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad when contacted, confirmed that the incident happened around 12pm yesterday.

Investigations found that the 63-year-old suspect went to the premises to purchase new lottery numbers worth RM180 as well as claiming his winnings amounting to RM360.

“With that, the suspect asked the employee to only deduct RM180 from the total winnings for the purpose of paying the lottery numbers he had just bought.

“However, the employee is said to have replied in a cruel manner that they did not have sufficient cash thus, causing the suspect to get furious and punched the glass counter until it shattered,” he said.

Due to the incident, the employee sustained injuries on her face due to the glass shards and she was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.

After receiving a police report from the owner, a police team was deployed to the scene to gather information and evidences to the case.

Abang Zainal said the elderly suspect had been brought in to Kota Sentosa police station around 8pm for questioning where, he admitted to his actions at the lottery shop.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing damages through act of mischief.
