KUCHING: An illegal immigrant, who was caught making her way into the state through a rat trail near Tebedu, was among four new Covid-19 positive cases reported in the state today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the case was an Indonesian woman who underwent Covid-19 screening after being detained by the authorities on Dec 21.

“The results of the investigation found that the case has a working history in Miri for the past six years. On Oct 12, the case made a legal return trip to Makassar, Indonesia.

“The case underwent Covid-19 screening on Dec 22 and test results were found positive,” he said when delivering the SDMC’s daily Covid-19 update today.

He said the second case, detected in Miri,  involved a Sarawakian man who  returned to the state from Kuala Lumpur through Miri Airport on Dec 18.

“The case was directed to undergo mandatory quarantine at a centre in Miri. He underwent Covid-19 screening on Dec 20 and the test result was positive. The case has symptoms of fever and was referred and admitted to Miri Hospital for further treatment,” he said.

Uggah added the other two cases were detected here. They involved two siblings who underwent Covid-19 screening after returning from Sabah.

“Both cases entered Sarawak via Kuching International Airport on Dec 21 and were instructed to undergo mandatory quarantine at a centre in Kuching.

“Both cases underwent the Rapid Test Kit Antigen (RTK-Antigen) screening on Dec 11 and 19 in Sabah prior to entering Sarawak and test results for both screenings were negative. Both cases then underwent Covid-19 screening on Dec 21 and the test results were positive,” he added.

Uggah  said all four cases were categorised as imported cases, bringing the cumulative total number of Covid-19 cases in the state to 1,904.
