LONDON: The state-level Gawai Dayak Celebration 2024 working committee from Sarawak are currently in London to introduce the exciting line-up of activities planned for the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebration in Kuching.

A significant moment during the visit was the unveiling of the Gawai Dayak Tourism Brochure on April 22, at the Malaysia Tourism and Promotional Board (MTPB) in London.

Deputy Permanent Secretary Anielia Siam, representing the Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) Sarawak, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, oversaw the launch.

“The brochure outlines various packages for tourists to experience Sarawak’s unique cultures and heritage. With the tremendous support from the High Commission of Malaysia (HCM) and the Malaysia Tourism and Promotional Board (MTPB) in London, we are able to provide firsthand information about Gawai Dayak to the residents across the United Kingdom and other European countries.

“The celebration of Gawai Dayak brings several positive impacts to society and the nation such as Education and Cultural Understanding, Cultural Preservation and Promotion, Community Development and Entrepreneurship, and Environmental Management and Conservation.

“We have so many experiential programmes to offer and I am pleased to invite not just tourists but also fellow Malaysians who are residing abroad to come home and participate in the Gawai Dayak celebration,” Sagah said in his speech text read by Anielia.

The three main packages offer tourists an immersive experience into Sarawak’s multicultural tapestry, featuring the Bidayuh, Iban, and Orang Ulu communities.

Bidayuh and Orang Ulu packages were crafted by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), while the Iban package was designed by the Sarawak Tourism Federation for leisure tourists.

Key events of the state-level Gawai Dayak Celebrations 2024 include the Gawai Dayak Bazaar (May 16 – 26, 2024) at MJC Batu Kawa Kuching, Gawai Dayak Carnival (June 6 – 9, 2024) at Dewan Manggeng, Siburan, and Gawai Dayak Cultural Parade (June 15, 2024) at Padungan and Kuching Waterfront.

The Sarawak government plans to feature these events in a Gawai Dayak Coffee Table Book and Tourism Brochure 2024, set to be launched on September 16, 2024.
