KUCHING: The first ever Kuching Urban Youth Glamping Festival will be held at the Aeon Mall rooftop here this weekend (March 11-12).
Deputy permanent secretary to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development Dolhadi Marzuki said glamping enthusiasts are encouraged to participate in the programme.
(Glamping, a portmanteau of the word “glamorous” and “camping”, is a style of camping with amenities and in some cases, resort style services not usually associated with the traditional style of camping.)
“The objective of the programme is to introduce to the public what glamping is regardless of their religious background, ethnicity and gender.
“Most importantly, we want the people to participate in much healthier activities, which is something that can be practiced by the community as well,” he said.
He said this during a press conference representing Deputy Minister of Dr Ripin Lamat, here on Tuesday (March 7).
He also said that the rooftop event is not only the first ever to be held in Sarawak, but that 3,000 visitors are expected to attend the two day event.
“It will showcase more than 10 booths by local youth entrepreneurs, displaying a range of products and services.
“In addition the scouts will be sending their members to showcase their gadgets, set up scout structures, and perform cultural demonstrations,” he added.
Organised by Borneo Glamping and Kelab Belia Proactif, the two day programme will present some unique programmes including outdoor camping and gear exhibition, skateboard performances by the Black Brigade Skateboard Academy, DIY crafting experience and most importantly, a Best Tent contest, and a Best Instagram photo contest.
Visitors can also participate in a coffee chat session with Ripin during the programme and engage with youth entrepreneurs.
