KUCHING: Those under quarantine at the designated centres in the state can call the government or non-governmental organisation’s (NGO) Covid-19 support helplines if they feel they cannot cope with being quarantined.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said this in response to a post that had gone viral on social media showing a hotel room vandalised by a person-under-surveillance (PUS) here.

“I believe the incident is under investigation. And we need to look at it rationally… as to what had triggered the person’s violent reaction. It could be due to stress or other factors,” she said when met by reporters at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.

She said it is understandable that those under quarantine tend to struggle with stress and might have anxiety especially when waiting for the result taken from the swap test.

“I do not know why the incident happened, but it could be due to stress. As such, we have to look from various perspectives as to what caused it,” she said.

Fatimah said she too had gone through self-quarantine at home, and it was important to have coping mechanism and build a kind of resilience in overcoming situation like this.

“Therefore, there are several helplines where people can call in to share their feelings and these people will be there to listen and help,” she said.
