KUCHING: The homeless and the urban poor within the city are able to get free meals at the Community Social Support Centre (CSSC), Wisma Ho Ho Lim, here.

Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that free breakfast and lunch will be given daily except on Sunday.

“The service component in CSSC Kuching which is a soup kitchen has been handing over the meals to the targeted groups while on Sunday, the kitchen will only provide dried food to them.

“This is possible, thanks to the donations and the support from the community by Society for Kuching Urban Poor (SKUP) which is a non-governmental organisation that was appointed by CSSC Kuching,” she said.

She also added that the soup kitchen began operating on Jan 3.

“As a matter of fact, the soup kitchen has distributed food to up to 30 people per day.

“We also would like to welcome donations, whether in the form of a corporate body or individuals, so that we can continue this noble effort,” she said.

She said the initiative is part of the service that her ministry provides to tackle social issues.
