DEBAK: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will fight tooth and nail for every vote in the upcoming parliamentary election.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said this was because it was determined to land a big win from among the 31 seats at stake.

“We will ‘lawan tetap lawan’ (fight to the end) to achieve our objective,” he said during the launching of the village security and development committee (JKKK) and the women’s bureau of Rh Denil Ranti in Menyalin Baru here on today (Oct 29).

Uggah who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president asserted that it was crucial for GPS to win as many seats as possible in order to be strong, respected and to effectively manage the state.

Then, he added, it could continue the ongoing effort to restore more of the state’s eroded rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

He noted that with a bountiful harvest of seats too, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg could then focus on how to generate more income for the state.

“When this is done, we could have greater funds to bring more and more development, progress and prosperity for the state and its people,” he said.

Uggah, who is also GPS parliamentary election director, thus called on all members and supporters to continue to remain united and give their undivided support to all its candidates.

“Let us come together again to solidly defend GPS. Let us make it grow from strength to strength.”

Earlier, Uggah, accompanied by Saribas assemblyman Mohd Razi Sitam and political secretary to the Premier, Dr Richard Rapu, also attended a meet-the-people session at the Millenia hall in Saribas town.

On delivering his speech, he commended Mohd Razi for getting his election machinery ready.

Uggah also urged the people to support Abang Johari’s choice to appoint Mohd Razi as a deputy minister in his cabinet following the state election last year.

Regarding the development of agriculture in the region, he said the Premier has given his approval for Lubok Tamang to become an agro-park soon.
