KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) parliamentarians had a private virtual audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong to verify their nominee for prime minister on Thursday.

The GPS’s nominee for prime minister was relayed to the King after a special meeting at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex last Wednesday.

GPS parliamentary chief whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof disclosed that 17 of the coalition’s MPs were joined by independent Lubok Antu MP Jugah Muyang while Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing was in Kuala Lumpur.

“The Yang di-Pertuan Agong had called us to verify our statutory declaration and choice for prime minister to ensure that the decision was made voluntarily.

“We were called individually to have the virtual audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong and for the GPS side, the matter is done,” he said when met by reporters at the Waterfront Hotel here today.

He was accompanied by GPS secretary general and Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Fadillah preferred to keep mum on the choice by GPS on who they nominated as prime minister and stated that the announcement should come from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

On Wednesday night, it was reported that Yang di-Pertuan Agong had called for the 114 MPs who signed the statutory declaration to support Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the prime minister candidate to be present at the Istana Negara and verify their stand.
