SERIAN: A sexagenarian died while his grandson was severely injured after their motorcycle was rear-ended by a pick-up truck yesterday (Feb 21).

Serian OCPD DSP Aswandy Anis said the accident happened around 4.50pm along KM42, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

The 67-year-old victim and his six-year-old grandson exited the junction of Jalan Sungai Barie and immediately went into the right lane where the pick-up truck was on.

“The 29-year-old driver tried to avoid the collision but failed as both vehicles were too close and rear-ended the motorcycle,” he said, adding that the rider and pillion rider were thrown off the vehicle.

The elderly victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and his body was taken to Serian Hospital for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the victim’s grandson sustained head injuries and is still being treated at the hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
