Habitual offender sentenced for possession of housebreaking tools

KUCHING: A man with a history of four previous criminal records related to theft and drugs has once again been sentenced for possession of equipment believed to be intended for housebreaking.

Mohd Saifullah Mohd Safri, 29, was fined RM1,000, in default one month in jail, by the Magistrates’ Court here on Monday (Oct 9).

He pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 35(g) of the Sarawak Minor Offences Ordinance (Chapter 56) as soon as the charge sheet was read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

He was accused of possessing a hammer, a screwdriver, a 12-inch cutting tool, and three small cutting tools.

Saifullah had these items in a compact car parked near a cafe in Jalan Pending around 4.15pm on Oct 6 last year.

According to the case facts, a police patrol came across a suspicious-looking compact car in front of a shop.

An examination of the vehicle revealed several tools suspected to be intended for criminal activities.

Additionally, the accused was detained with the confiscated items.

Investigations revealed that Saifullah had equipment believed to be used for housebreaking in his possession.

The accused also had two previous records related to theft and two cases involving drug abuse.

The prosecution was handled by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
