KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) will allow students to return for face-to-face study sessions in March but only at 50 per cent capacity.

“Currently, students involved in professional programmes that need to make use of laboratory equipment, completing fieldwork as well as workshops will be allowed first,” said vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi.

“This is due to the difficulties they encounter when carrying out virtual learning,” he told the media after the 14th International Engineering Conference (EnCon2022) here on Wednesday.

Commenting further, he said students would still need to comply with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities – only those who have been fully vaccinated can return for classes.

“Classes will also be held accordingly in a hybrid manner at their respective residential colleges. However, majority are more into physical learning.”

On another note, he said he was proud of the strong cooperation between the various Unimas stakeholders.

“The ongoing collaboration with these strategic partners has brought many positive impacts.

“At the same time, this will also provide a networking platform for them to become professionals in engineering, technology and management.”
