KUCHING: The Kota Padawan Hash House Harriers & Harriettes is set to host its 999th Hash Run on Dec 31 at Kampung Bobak, Padawan, marking the conclusion of a memorable 2023 and ushering in a hopeful 2024.
Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen on a Facebook post said he will be officiating at the flag off ceremony at the event.
“Not only did I confirm my attendance at the event, but I also issued a cheque for RM5,000, handed over to the club as a contribution towards the event’s operational expenses,” he said on Friday.
According to club president Sim Swee Peng, this event has attracted more than 400 participants (hashers) from Sarawak, Sabah, Peninsular Malaysia, Brunei, and Bali, Indonesia.
This marks the second time the club has organised such a grand event in Kampung Bobak, the first being the 888th hash event, also held in the same village.
The event is scheduled in three segments: a 25-kilometre trail at 8 am, a 7-kilometre run at 2 pm, and a 3-kilometre run at 3 pm, testing participants’ physical endurance with hill climbs and challenging terrains.
Furthermore, the club will also donate supplies to 10 local households, showcasing its commitment to giving back to the community during festivities and upholding the spirit of the hash.
Chong also commended the club for promoting ‘hash running’ and its transformation into a widely embraced activity among the hashers.
“The overwhelming response to the 999th hash run and the participation of hashers from various regions highlights the remarkable success of the club in promoting this sport and fostering social connections.
“Therefore, I am committed to continuing my support for the club in promoting this activity that contributes to physical well-being and community cohesion,” he added.
