MUKAH: The current haze situation has not only affected the population here in the coastal town of Mukah but its resident fishermen as well.

A trader, who only wanted to be identified as Wee, yesterday said the haze was quite serious compared to previous days.

According to him, not many fishermen ventured out to sea in the last few days because they were concerned about visibility.

“If they do set out, they tend not to go too far unlike previously.

“They are scared that their nets would be damaged by larger vessels (due to low visibility) passing by,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

Wee, in his 40s, is in the ‘umai’ (traditional cured fish) business, and has a few friends who are fishermen.

He also said the haze here was thicker in the afternoon than in the morning.

Meanwhile, the API for Mukah was 127, which was unhealthy, as at 7.30pm yesterday.
