KUCHING: An ambulance transporting patient Morgan Alban encountered delays on Jalan Sri Aman-Kuching recently, resulting in the death of a patient.

Morgan’s wife Annie Andrew expressed deep sorrow as the failure of an SUV to give way led to her husband’s tragic death.

A grieving Annie said in her Facebook post: “I have just lost my husband. For me, every second was precious, even if it was only a single second.”

She appealed for understanding, particularly considering her two young children, who “haven’t had enough of his love”.

The incident garnered attention after a video recorded by the ambulance driver went viral. The footage depicted a Perodua Kembara seemingly unaffected by blaring sirens, eventually giving way after a prolonged delay.

The Sri Aman police promptly identified the responsible driver, pressing charges under Rule 9 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

In a surprising turn, the Perodua Kembara driver’s family reached out to Annie, revealing that their 65-year-old father suffered from chronic hearing issues. They asserted it was unintentional.

Accepting their apology, Annie urged caution, saying: “This condition is dangerous, and not only for the recent situation. Don’t let the same thing happen twice or to someone else.”

She recommended either restricting the father from driving or ensuring he uses hearing aids.

Responding to a comment downplaying the incident’s duration, Annie stressed the significance of every moment.

“I have two young kids, aged two and one. Every second counts as I wished for my kids to continue experiencing their father’s love,” she said.
