SIBU: Housewives will find the Celik-SURI (Skuad Urus Risiko Isirumah) programme useful as it enhances awareness when it comes to dealing with fires.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Datuk Khirudin Drahman that the programme organised by Bomba in collaboration with Sarawak Energy Berhad can educate the community to practise the 3Ps, namely prevention, precaution and protection.

“The participation of housewives is crucial as the programme enhances personal safety at home in the event of a fire.

“Sarawak Energy Berhad also provides lectures, particularly on the proper use of electrical equipment. This is important because electronic appliances are often one of the main causes of fires,” he said at a press conference after officiating at the closing of the Celik-SURI programme at Sungai Merah Fire Station here yesterday (July 5).

A total of 29 government and private agencies were involved in the programme, including the Sibu Resident’s Office, Sibu River Board and District Office.
