Helping villagers prosper through skills training

BINTULU: The Village Transformation Programme (VTP) Series 5/2023 is offering a variety of courses designed to boost the skills and income of people in longhouses and traditional villages.

Sarawak Implementation Monitoring Unit (SIMU) director Felicia Tan Ya Hua said that the five-day courses was to improve the skills and knowledge of longhouse residents, which in turn helps them earn more money for their families.

Tan also said that the programme not only focuses on personal development but also on sustainability.

“As part of this programme, we will distribute stoves and basic equipment kits to longhouses in the Bintulu Division,” she said during the closing ceremony of VTP Series 5/2023 today (August 18).

The programme attracted 43 participants from the Bintulu Division and eight from the Kapit Division. It’s a collaborative effort involving CENTEXS, the Bintulu Division Resident’s Office and the participants.

The courses, which took place from August 14 to 18, covered important topics such as Electrical Wiring Safety, Pastry and Bakery Production, and Fertigation Planting and Entrepreneurship.

Also present were the chief executive officer and CENTEXS Industry Academy deputy director Dr. Nadianatra Musa; Bintulu Resident’s representative, Haslina Bujang; Bintulu District Office representative, Seavors Miot; and Tatau District Office Representative, Long Jok.
